Curler Kevin Koe Past Arctic Winter Games Medal Winner 4/20/2009

As Grande Prairie, Alberta hosts the Grey Power Player’s Championship, spectators are keen to see who will secure a berth in the Canadian Olympic Trials and Pre-Trials.

Kevin Koe, who has already qualified with his team for the Olympic curling trials to be held at Rexall Place in Edmonton this December, has his eye on a medal at next year’s Olympic Games in Vancouver. Many in the region have been following Koe as he has local ties to the city, having called Grande Prairie home for the past two years.

However, Koe has another local tie that many aren’t familiar with. Koe is a two-time Arctic Winter Games participant and medal winner. He secured the gold in Whitehorse in 1992 and the silver in Slave Lake in 1994. With the 2010 Games to take place in Grande Prairie just under a year from now, Koe serves as an inspiration to the young athletes who will be descending upon the city from across the circumpolar north next March.

Koe will be available to speak to the media about his Arctic Winter Games experience and the influence it has had on him and his game.

The Arctic Winter Games is an international sport and cultural event that provides Northern youth with an opportunity to share the sports and cultures of their communities. The 2010 Games will be held in Grande Prairie from March 6-13.
