2010 Arctic Winter Games Signs Food Services Contract
Grande Prairie, Alberta – Participants in the 2010 Arctic Winter Games won’t be able to blame an empty stomach if they have trouble concentrating on their competition or performance during the Games.
The Grande Prairie 2010 Arctic Winter Games Host Society recently signed a food services contract with Western Camp Services Ltd worth close to $700,000. The agreement will see the company provide three wholesome meals a day, plus a complete ‘grazing menu’ for 2,000 participants over a nine-day period.
Director of Food Services, Paul Pynn says participants in these unique circumpolar Games are in for a treat, with food prepared by Western Camp Services’ team of culinary experts.
“If anyone can handle 2,000 hungry athletes and performers during the Games, they can. Chef Richard Middleton is a Gold Seal, Gold Medal chef with incredible experience preparing first-rate food for festivals, sporting events, even the cast & crew of Titanic.” Pynn says Middleton’s experience has added icing to the cake in terms of what Western Camp Services could offer the Games.
The company is already Western Canada’s largest provider of food services to work camps with a reputation for bringing consistently good food to hundreds, even thousands of hungry employees working on-location throughout the North. Adding Middleton to the team has brought some elegance to the company’s portfolio, with the chef’s resume even boasting a chance to prepare a truly ‘Canadian’ feast for Prince Edward and his wife, the former Sophie Rhys-Jones when they visited Edmonton for the World Track & Field Championships in 2001.
Food for the 2010 Arctic Winter Games will be prepared in the kitchens of the Grande Prairie Composite High School and St. Joseph’s Catholic High School where athletes will also be housed.
