Snowshoeing has become more and more popular as a recreational activity. It is a relatively inexpensive sport to get into, you can snowshoe virtually anywhere in any weather and it doesn’t require a great deal of technical skill. If you can walk, you can snowshoe! Many athletes use snowshoeing in the winter as a great non impact way of keeping in shape and enjoying the great outdoors at the same time. Beats running in place on treadmill! There is nothing like running across a field in some heavy snow to get the heart rate up. Snowshoes are still used today by hunters, trappers and other workers in areas where snowmobiles and ATV’s cannot manoeuvre. Snowshoeing will prove to be an exciting event during this year’s Arctic Winter Games.
