Speed Skating

There is no question that speed is the name of the game in Speed Skating. These athletes train a great deal in order to make their movements mechanically sound, because every unnecessary movement could be a potential second lost, leaving the athlete that much farther from the finish line. Speed Skating has been a staple sport in the Arctic Winter Games since 1984 when it made its first appearance at the Games in Yellowknife, NWT.

Classes Competing in Speed Skating during 2010 Arctic Winter Games include:

Junior Male (between July 1, 1990 and June 30, 1995; 15 - 20 yrs old)

Junior Female (between July 1, 1990 and June 30, 1995; 15 - 20 yrs old)

Juvenile Male (between July 1, 1995 and June 30, 1998; 12 - 15 yrs old)

Juvenile Female (between July 1, 1995 and June 30, 1998; 12 - 15 yrs old)
